The court ruled on the validity of its five patents and patent infringements. On July 23, 2015, it finally ruled that Seoul Semiconductor won the case.
Seoul Semiconductor's proprietary technology covers a wide range of applications, including backlight assembly (BLU) technology, LED packaging technology, and LED chip and epitaxial layer technology as well as black hole lens technology. These patented technologies cover basic components and new backlighting applications, including manufacturing systems, LED displays and optical devices. Seoul Semiconductor said that “infringement of its intellectual property rights is a very serious problem. In order to protect our authorized parties and customers who use the patented technology of Seoul Semiconductor, Seoul Semiconductor will continue to search for infringing LED applications on the market and maintain law enforcement procedures. In response to any third-party infringer who does not respect the intellectual property rights of Seoul Semiconductor. In fact, Seoul Semiconductor is in the process of another patent litigation allegedly infringing.
LED products are typical products that are often subject to patent litigation. In order to promote market fairness, such enforcement actions are inevitable.
