There was news last week that Sony will release at least two 4K OLED TVs at the CES show early next year. Now, this rumor has gained some degree of "official confirmation."
According to the latest report, Barry Young, president of OLED Association, confirmed the news that Sony plans to release 4K OLED TV, and also broke the details related to it.
According to Young revealed that Sony will release in the next year at least 2 models 4K OLED TV, sizes are 55 inches and 65 inches, the display panel two TV shipments will be used in the middle of next year.
At the same time, it is certain that Sony's two TVs will also support HDR technology. After all, all the OLED TVs that have been released this year have already had this function, and even all the LCD TVs released by Sony this year.
Considering the shipment time of the display panel, it is doubtful whether the two TVs will appear at the CES show. After all, the exhibition will be officially opened in a few weeks. Of course, it is entirely possible for Sony to prepare the display model in advance.
Whether or not they will be unveiled at CES, we can at least expect the spark of the OLED panel and Sony's powerful image processing engine (and other display technologies). This is obviously good news for consumers who are interested in buying an OLED TV but want to have more choices at the same time.
But then again, the OLED panels used by Sony's two TVs may not bring any innovation in themselves, because they are manufactured by LG. But the quality of the decision is not only the panel itself, but also the back end of the TV and hardware technology, so we are also very curious whether Sony can bring better products than LG.
It is worth mentioning that, according to Young's breaking news, Sony has high hopes for the sales of these two OLED TVs. The 55-inch version has an expected sales volume of 80,000 units, and the 65-inch version has 12,000 units. These numbers may not be as high as 4K LCD TVs - not to mention ordinary HDTVs - but they are not too bad.
For the average consumer, the price of the product may be a topic of more concern to them. According to Young, the retail price of Sony's 55-inch OLED TV is expected to be US$1999 (about RMB 14,000), and the 65-inch version is US$2,999 (about RMB 21,000). Although the pricing is not low, it is already very cheap compared to most of LG's OLED TVs this year and even Sony's own flagship LCD model Z9D.
So it seems that if the price information provided by Young is accurate, Sony's new OLED TV will aim at a broader consumer group. Of course, the entire OLED TV market should also have a fierce price war next year.
