April US game market sales growth of 20% Xbox 360 best-selling

According to foreign media reports, according to a research report published by NPD Group, a market research company, the US video game industry rebounded in April 2011, with total sales revenue of US$961.2 million, a year-on-year increase of 20%. Game software sales revenue was $503 million, a 26% increase from the $398.5 million in April 2010. Game hardware sales revenue was US$280 million, an increase of 12% year-on-year. Revenue from video game accessories sales was US$147.6 million, a year-on-year increase of 20%.

Hardware sales for consoles are the lowest in this category. Game hardware shipments grew by 3%, and the decline in average retail prices contributed to the increase in sales revenue. Sales of Sony's PS3, Sony's PSP portable game console and Microsoft's Xbox 360 game console both increased compared to April 2010. The Xbox 360 was the best-selling video game console in April, followed by the Nintendo DS portable game console.

The report stated that April was the third consecutive month of year-on-year increase in hardware sales revenue in the US market. Game software sales in April was the first increase in sales and sales revenue since last November. Microsoft's Xbox 360 sold more than 3.5 million units in April, ranking first. Nintendo DS, Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii all achieved year-on-year sales growth.
