This is a bit troublesome! Some sweeping robots in China are caught in patent battle

Recently, the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products held the 337 investigation and early warning working session of the US Robotics Sweeping Robot in Beijing. The three companies involved in the case from Shenzhen and Suzhou all participated in the meeting and expressed their active response.

On April 18th, the US sweeping robot manufacturer iRobot initiated lawsuits against 11 competitors and accused them of infringing on the company’s six technology patents. The accused targets included three Chinese companies and eight foreign companies, including Shenzhen Zhiyi Technology. Co., Ltd., Suzhou Laibao Electric Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Yinxing Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd., and Bissell, Hoover, Royal Electrical Manufacturing Co., Ltd., bObsweep, Black & Decker, etc.

Among the three Chinese companies involved in this case, Shenzhen Zhiyi has its own brand of sweeping robots in the US market; Suzhou Leybold and Shenzhen Silver Star are foundry companies. Among the several foreign companies involved, there are several companies. Sweeping robots were built by these two Chinese companies.

The sweeping robot market has developed rapidly in recent years. Around 2010, domestic brands of sweeping robots emerged and gradually realized industrialization. At present, the domestic market already has dozens of brands of sweeping robots, such as Cobos, iRobot, Format, Dibei, Xrobot, Haier, Midea, Prosenic, Philips and Samsung. However, the proportion of sweeping robot companies established locally with core R&D capabilities is not high.

According to GFK data, the retail sales volume of China's sweeping robot market in 2015 is about 5 billion yuan, and this figure will reach 7.5 billion yuan in 2017 and will increase to 12 billion yuan in 2018. Sweeping robots have a huge market space. At present, the US market and the Chinese market are the major markets for sweeping robots, but even if it is the most developed US market, the penetration rate of US household intelligent sweeping robots is 16%, and the penetration rate of intelligent sweeping robots in the domestic coastal areas is 4% - 5%, inland penetration is as low as 0.5%.

In terms of the current domestic market pattern, Covos, which has a market share of nearly 70% in recent years, firmly holds the top position in the industry, while professional brands such as iRobot, Neato, and Fortune fill the remaining 30% share, and other industries The market share of brands such as Philips and Haier that were switched from the market was almost negligible.

At present, over 77% of sales of sweeping robots come from e-commerce channels.

Experts said that the patent war started the field of sweeping robots this year. In order to win market competition, domestic sweeping robots are no longer plagued by "patent warfare." They must pay attention to R&D and breakthroughs in core technologies, actively promote the process of independent innovation, and gain consumer recognition with leading quality and excellent service.
