Expansion of production and low cost by scale are the main objectives of LED companies' listing financing. But corresponding to this IPO tide, the LED application market is slowly opening. At present, the domestic LED lighting market penetration rate is only 5%. The advantages of LED lighting have not yet been stimulated, experts believe that companies need to strengthen research and development to open the market.

According to the research report of the High-tech LED Industry Research Institute, most of the LED companies to be listed are concentrated in the packaging field.

In fact, the profit of LED packaging companies is not rich. Zhang Xiaofei, dean of Zhejiang Higher Industrial Research Institute, revealed that there are more than 1,200 packaging companies in China, with more production capacity than market demand. There are many packaging companies and small scales. The homogenization competition leads to price wars, and the gross profit margin continues to fall.

"Overcapacity is not necessarily a bad thing, and companies that are eager to make huge profits will automatically exit." Wang Donglei, chairman of Dehao Runda, believes that in the current domestic LED market, the ability to control costs has become the core competitiveness of enterprises, and companies that cannot control low-cost Can only accept the fate of being merged or closed down.

Big companies want to use the scale to reduce costs and survive the price war that has already started. Zhang Xiaofei believes that the current domestic LED industry is still in its infancy, and the gap between enterprises is not obvious. The dominant enterprises hope to quickly open the gap and establish a leading position in the industry segment. “There are also some companies that choose to expand by mergers and acquisitions, whether it is expansion or mergers and acquisitions, they need a lot of money,” he said.

In December 2011, the IPO approved by Jufei Optoelectronics, the main purpose of its financing is to expand production. Jufei Optoelectronics prospectus (declaration draft) shows that the company plans to raise funds to invest in backlight LED device expansion projects, lighting LED device expansion projects and LED technology research and development center projects. After the fundraising project is fully completed, the production capacity of backlight LED device products will increase by 1440 million/year, and the production capacity of lighting LED device products will increase by 660 million/year.

"Undoubtedly, the current upstream investment in LED is overheated, everyone thinks that they can stand out." Zhang Xiaofei said that although the overcapacity question is endless, the capital market is still pursuing the LED industry. "The middle and upper reaches of the LED enterprises are getting funds." VC is also a factor in promoting the IPO of LED companies. Zhang Xiaofei said that domestic LEDs have been favored by multi-channel VCs in the early stage of development, and when enterprises have developed into the leading areas of segmentation, VC obviously hopes to promote the listing of enterprises and withdraw in due course.

Advantage is not stimulated
At present, domestic LED applications are mainly based on backlit screens and display screens. Although the government-led “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Miles” plan has given many business opportunities for LED engineering lighting, the demand for the larger civilian lighting field has not yet started.

According to the research of the High-tech LED Industry Research Institute, the current domestic LED lighting market penetration rate is only 5%. "I don't think LED lighting demand will have a big outbreak in the short term." Zhang Xiaofei said that considering the current situation of overcapacity has hit some investors, the market penetration rate in 2012 should be 7% to 8%. In fact, under the influence of upstream capacity expansion, LED lighting prices continue to decline. According to a research report by Guojin Securities, the lowest price of LED bulbs replacing traditional 40W and 60W incandescent lamps has dropped to US$11.1 and US$18.9 respectively in December last year.

At present, Zhaoxin Group is developing new lamps such as flat lamps for the technical advantages of LEDs. Wan Xiao admits that LED lighting should make breakthroughs in lighting design and optical design, and “doing things that traditional lamps do not have” can improve civil lighting. Market penetration.

The current situation of structural excess and price decline in the LED industry provides a favorable application for downstream application. Zhang Xiaofei believes that if the government can increase the subsidies to the downstream, the penetration rate of LED will be higher. Zhang Xiaofei also suggested that enterprises should increase research and development efforts to improve some technical problems including LED lighting.
