LED applications should be aware of specifications such as moisture resistance and dumping. The IP (INTERNATIONAL PROTECTION) protection rating system was drafted by IEC (INTERNATIONAL ELECTROTECHNICAL COMMISSION). The luminaires are graded according to their dust and moisture resistance characteristics. The foreign objects referred to here include tools, human fingers, etc., which are not accessible to the live parts of the lamps to avoid electric shock. The IP protection level is composed of two digits. The first digit indicates the level of the lamp from dust and the intrusion of foreign objects. The second digit indicates the degree of airtightness of the lamp against moisture and water intrusion. The larger the number, the more the protection level is. high.
The first indicator number is defined:
0 No protection: no special protection for people or things outside
1 Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 50mm: Prevent the human body (such as the palm) from accidentally coming into contact with the parts inside the lamp. Prevent foreign objects of larger size (greater than 50mm in diameter) from intruding.
2 Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 12mm: Prevent human fingers from coming into contact with parts inside the lamp to prevent intrusion of medium-sized (12mm in diameter) foreign objects.
3 Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 2.5mm: Prevent the intrusion of tools, wires or similar small objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 2.5mm into contact with the parts inside the lamp.
4 Prevent the intrusion of solid objects larger than 1.0mm: Prevent the intrusion of tools, wires or similar small objects with a diameter or thickness greater than 1.0mm into contact with the parts inside the lamp.
5 Dustproof: completely prevent foreign matter from entering. Although it can't completely prevent dust from entering, the amount of intruded dust does not affect the normal operation of the lamp.
6 Dustproof: completely prevent foreign objects from entering, and can completely prevent dust from entering
The second indicator number is defined:
0 no protection: no protection
1 Prevent dripping ingress: Water droplets dripping vertically (such as condensate) will not cause harmful effects on the lamp.
2 It can prevent dripping intrusion when tilted at 15 degrees: when the luminaire is tilted vertically to 15 degrees, dripping water will not cause harmful effects on the luminaire
3 Prevent the intrusion of sprayed water: prevent rain, or prevent water sprayed in a direction with a vertical angle of less than 60 degrees from entering the luminaire.
4 Prevent splashing water from invading: Prevent water from splashing in all directions from entering the fixture and causing damage.
5 Prevent intrusion of injected water: Prevent water from the nozzles from entering the lamp from entering the lamp in all directions.
6 Prevent the intrusion of large waves: Fixtures installed on the deck to prevent damage caused by large waves.
7 Prevent water intrusion when immersed in water: The lamp is immersed in water for a certain period of time or the water pressure is below a certain standard to ensure that it is not damaged by water ingress.
8 Preventing the intrusion of water when it is sunk: The indefinite sinking of the luminaire ensures that it is not damaged by the influent water under the specified water pressure.
The IEC standard is short for IEC International Electrotechnical Commission standards:
Founded in 1906, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) is the world's first non-governmental international electrical standardization organization and a level A consulting organization of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). After the establishment of ISO in 1947, IEC was incorporated into ISO as an electrician, but it remained technically and financially independent. According to the new agreement between ISO and IEC in 1976, the two organizations are legally independent organizations. The IEC is responsible for international standardization work in the electrical and electronic fields, and other areas are under the responsibility of ISO. At present, IEC member countries include the vast majority of industrial developed countries and some developing countries. These countries have 80% of the world's population, produce and consume 95% of the world's electricity, and manufacture and use electrical and electronic products that account for 90% of world production. The purpose of the IEC is to promote the international unification of electrical standards, international cooperation in standardization and related fields in the field of electrical and electronic engineering, and to enhance international mutual understanding. To achieve this, various publications, including international standards, are published and it is hoped that national committees will use these international standards where their national conditions permit. IEC's areas of work include electrical, electrical, telecommunications and atomic energy.
The highest authority of the IEC is the Council. There are currently 53 member states, called the IEC National Committee, and each country can have only one agency as its member. Each member state is a member of the board of directors. The board meeting is held once a year, called the IEC annual meeting, and is held in turn in each member state. The Executive Committee deals with matters assigned by the Board of Directors. The technical work of the IEC is the responsibility of the Executive Board (CA). In order to improve work efficiency, the Executive Committee is divided into three groups: A, B, and C, which simultaneously deal with coordination issues in standard setting work in different fields. The IEC currently has 104 technical committees and 143 sub-technical committees. The IEC has three certification committees, one is the Electronic Components Quality Evaluation Committee (IECQ), one is the Electronic Safety Certification Committee (IECEE), and the other is the Explosion-proof Electrical Certification Committee (IECEX). In order to harmonize the relevant certification standards, the IEC also established the Conformity Assessment Board (CAB) in 1996 to develop a series of certification and accreditation standards including system certification.
