Millet's global mobile phone shipments reached 360 million in the second quarter and returned to the top five in the world

According to Strategy AnalyTIcs, “In the second quarter of 2017, global smartphone shipments totaled 360.4 million units, up 6% from the 341.5 million units in the same period last year, and the global market share was 22%. Benefiting from emerging markets such as Africa for the first time. The promotion of Android flagship smartphones by users in developed countries such as Western Europe and the United States, the global smartphone market shipments have maintained a steady increase in the number of units per cent this year."

According to Strategy AnalyTIcs, Samsung Electronics shipped 79.5 million smartphones in the second quarter, up 2% from 77.6 million in the same period last year. Benefiting from the popularity of the new flagship smartphone Galaxy S8 series, Samsung's smartphone business is gradually recovering from the Galaxy Note 7 global recall last year. Strategy AnalyTIcs expects the company's position in the global smartphone market to be further consolidated as Samsung Electronics launches the larger screen Galaxy Note 8.

Apple's smartphone shipments in the second quarter were 41 million units, up 1% from the same period last year, and the global market share was 11%, slightly lower than 12% in the same period last year. The Apple iPhone is no longer popular in the Chinese market, which is the main reason that affects the development of Apple's smartphone business. Currently, the market is focusing on the iPhone listed at the end of this year. It is hoped that this product will help Apple's shipments recover during the holiday shopping season at the end of the year.

Huawei is still the world's third-largest smartphone maker in the second quarter, with market share reaching 11% of the company's record, up from 9% in the same period last year. Huawei's current shipments are very close to Apple's. In the next few quarters, Huawei is expected to surpass Apple and become the world's second largest smartphone manufacturer. Strategy Analytics pointed out that products such as Huawei P10 and Mate 9 are currently very popular in Asia, Europe and Africa.

OPPO shipped 29.5 million smartphones in the second quarter, with a global market share of 8%, ranking fourth among all smartphone vendors. OPPO shipments in the second quarter increased by 64% year-on-year.

In the second quarter, Xiaomi’s smartphone shipments increased by 58% year-on-year, and for the first time in the past year, it has re-entered the world’s top five smartphones. In the second quarter, Xiaomi’s smartphone shipments totaled 23.2 million units, up from 14.7 million units in the same period last year. The company's share of the global smartphone market reached 6.4%, 2.1 percentage points higher than the 4.3% in the same period last year. Xiaomi's smartphones are currently very popular in markets such as India, and the company hopes to maintain its current growth momentum until the second half of this year.
