Cable industry needs to break the low-end situation

In the large-scale fires that occur in China each year, the proportion of electrical fires is as high as 80%, of which more than 50% is related to wires and cables; China’s wire and cable scale and output are the world’s largest, but exports account for only 3% of output, and cable industry accounts for more than 90%. The production capacity is concentrated on low-end products and the average investment in R&D funds is less than 1% of sales. This reporter learned from the first China Wire & Cable Expo and Product Quality Summit held in Wuhu, Anhui Province.

Wei Chuanzhong, deputy director of the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine, said at the meeting that effective measures should be taken to focus on solving some key and institutional issues affecting the development of the wire and cable industry. To encourage and promote the main users of wire and cable and large-scale enterprises, actively eliminate potential mechanisms such as “lowest bid”.
