Texas Instruments (TI) announced the introduction of a low-voltage differential signaling (LVDS) serializer and deserializer (SerDes) in a 5&TImes; 5mm QFN package, which is said to be smaller than 1/3 of its competing solutions, significantly reducing each Board-level space for applications such as wireless base stations, data communication backplanes, industrial and video systems, and in-vehicle infotainment and video systems.
The SN65LV1023A serializer and SN65LV1224B deserializer use a 10-bit SerDes chipset that can transmit and receive serial data at a clock rate equivalent to a parallel word (10MHz to 66MHz) via the LVDS differential backplane. This rate range corresponds to a throughput range of 100 Mbps to 660 Mbps.
At 66MHz, the chipset (serializer/deserializer) consumes less than 450mW (standard value), the synchronous mode is fast-locked, and has a lock indicator. The phase-locked loop requires no external components and is suitable for –40°C Industrial temperature range of ~85 °C. The chip clock features programmable edge flip-flops and a straight-through pinout package for easy PCB layout.
The SN65LV1023A and SN65LV1224B are available now, both in 5&TImes; 5mm 32-pin leadless quad flat pack (QFN), which is currently available for ordering through TI and its authorized distributors. In addition, these products are available in a 28-pin Small Package (SSOP) version. When the batch size is 1,000 sets, the recommended unit price is $4.60.
