According to Taiwan’s “Electronic Times†report, AMD currently plans to release Ultrabook-like products within two years. In 2012 and 2013, the company will release Deccan and Kerala platforms, respectively, as the successor to the current Brazos APU platform.
In recent years, AMD’s global CPU market share has been about 20%, while in the notebook CPU market this figure is about 10%. AMD plans to increase its market share in the notebook CPU market by releasing products for ultra-thin laptops.
In July 2012, AMD will release the Deccan platform, which includes the APUs codenamed "Krishna" and "Wichita"; they will be upgraded to the APU codenamed "Kabini" Kerala in 2013. AMD expects that the upgraded two-generation products will bring a full range of performance and endurance to the notebook APU platform, enabling the company to compete with Ivy Bridge/Haswell, which Intel will release in 2012/2013 respectively.
In the traditional notebook market, AMD has released the Sabine platform based on Llano APU to replace the previous Danube. However, due to the low production yield of GlobalFoundries' 32nm process and many problems in the production process, the supply of Llano APU is greatly limited, which will impact AMD's future plans in the notebook computer market, that is, the release of Trinity APU based on 2012. The Comal platform was upgraded to Kaveri APU-based Indus platform in 2013.
In addition, in the tablet PC market, AMD has jointly launched a complete machine based on Brazos APU in 2011, running the Windows operating system and targeting the enterprise market. In the second quarter of 2012, AMD will release the Brazos T platform using the Hondo APU; in 2013 it will upgrade to the Samara platform and will introduce the same CPU architecture as the ultra-slim notebook.
