Driven by safety, ZF Tianhe demonstrates advanced technology in the cold zone test track

Recently, the ZF Trina-ZF Active and Passive Safety Technology Department emphasized the technical capabilities of its braking and steering systems at its activities in the Avisco Cold Belt Test Site in northern Sweden. The company's series of technologies, which are displayed under the slogan “Safety Drive”, play a fundamental role in achieving a new generation of vehicle safety and autonomous driving.

Some of the innovative technologies exhibited by ZF Tianhe are:

Integrated Brake Control System (IBC) – IBC will begin mass production in 2018. It is a vacuum-free technology that simplifies the brake system structure while improving performance. This technology was first demonstrated on an SUV prototype, highlighting its flexibility to adapt to a wide range of cars, not only for large SUVs.

Upgraded Electronic Stability Control (EBC460) – ZF Trina's latest production of this technology for the BMW 7 Series is the company's most advanced slip control system. In addition to its extensive braking capabilities, this technology also acts as a "black box" software integration hub that houses algorithms that control certain autonomous driving, safety, chassis and transmission functions.

Electric Power Steering (EPS) Dual Gear and Active Motion Control (AKC) – The company demonstrated for the first time the potential of integrated front and rear axle steering for concept testing on mainstream prototypes. The combination of the front axle dual-gear EPS and the rear axle AKC gives the driver a higher level of steering and steering performance and improves vehicle stability and flexibility by reducing the radius of rotation.

Peter Lake, a member of the ZF Group Board of Directors, Head of Group Marketing and Executive Vice President of Sales and Business Development at ZF, commented: “ZF is a market-proven supplier with technology in selected technologies. With decades of experience, we are passionate about vehicle safety. The regulations are becoming more stringent, and our business is ideally positioned to support our customers in the new era of active safety and autonomous driving."

In the field of steering, we have a full range of technologies – from column-driven EPS to dual-gear EPS to belt-driven EPS – to serve all types of vehicle segments. The low-friction performance of our belt-driven EPS technology is an excellent solution for autonomous driving; this technology is an industry benchmark we set, and its steering feel is highly sensitive and accurate, which has been praised by customers.

“In terms of braking, this demonstration also includes a complete set of electronic and basic braking technologies, including advanced electronic parking brake (EPB) and electronic stability control (ESC) systems.”

The company's high dynamic standard ESC, six-piston advanced ESC and new generation IBC systems combine advanced camera and radar technology to continuously accumulate brake pressure and provide excellent performance in automatic emergency braking systems. The company is validating these systems with advanced standards and has developed drive-independent variables for regenerative braking.

The combination of ZF and ZF Sky combines to create more advanced systems that drive vehicle control and functionality to a higher level.
