Toshiba launches next-generation Bluetooth low-power IC for vehicles

Toshiba Electronic Components and Storage Co., Ltd. introduces a new version of the Bluetooth Standard Specification 4.2, which is compatible with the Low Power (LE). The TC35679IFTG includes secure link support, LE privacy, and a data packet length extension. The IC also offers a wide temperature range for use in harsh automotive environments. It also includes analog RF and baseband digital components to provide a comprehensive solution in a single, compact, thin 40-pin 6mm x 6mm x 1mm QFN wettable flank package with 0.5mm pitch.

The TC35679IFTG provides Bluetooth Host Controller Interface (HCI) functionality and low power GATT profile functionality (as defined by Bluetooth) specifications. When combined with external non-volatile memory, the IC is a full-fledged application processor that can also be used with external host processors.

Toshiba launches next-generation Bluetooth low-power IC for vehicles

Highly integrated device with Arm Cortex-M0 processor and a large 384KB on-board reticle type of read-only memory (ROM) for Bluetooth fundamental processing, plus 192KB of onboard random access memory (RAM), which can be used to store Bluetooth applications and data.

A key feature of the TC35679IFTG is its support for 17 general-purpose IO (GPIO) lines and support for a variety of communication options such as SPI, I2C and 921.6 kbps dual-channel UARTs, thus forming a system of peripheral components. These GPIO lines provide access to a range of on-board functions such as wake-up interfaces, 4-channel PWM interfaces, and 6-channel analog-to-digital converters, as well as optional external power amplifier control interface control for applications requiring a wider power range.

The on-chip dc-to-dc converter or LDO circuit regulates the external voltage to the voltage required by the chip. This low-power IC is AEC-Q100 compliant and will be primarily suitable for automotive applications. The wettable flank package simplifies the automated surface anomaly inspection required, provides a high level of soldering quality and withstands vibrations in automotive applications.

Current applications include a remote key system and reduced Cable usage by providing a reliable wireless connection to the sensor. This will enable remote connection to diagnostic equipment to form a Bluetooth “soft” on-board diagnostic (OBD) port, saving on the associated wiring and OBD connectors and reducing their weight.

The TC35679IFTG supports a wide range of operating voltages (1.8 to 3.6V), making it ideal for automotive applications. When the input voltage is 2.7 ~ 3.6V, the operating temperature range is -40 ÌŠC ~ 105 ÌŠC, the input voltage is 1.8 ~ 3.6V, the operating temperature range is -40 ÌŠC ~ 85 ÌŠC.
