Digital Learning Helps Equalization of Education Resources New VR Technology Brings Deep Changes in Education

At the Fourth World Internet Conference held in Wuzhen, the “Interactive Dreamer” pavilion attracted the attention of a large number of domestic and foreign guests. Before the school's online booth, the audience lined up to experience VR teaching products.

Today, with wearable devices and virtual reality technology, you can “ride” the Shenzhou soundings and “swipe” with the dragons to dive into the sea. As long as you are in the online world, whether you are a scientist on the Snow Dragon Antarctic examination boat or a primary school student living in the countryside, you can use your computer or mobile phone to search for the information you are interested in.

The 19th National Party Congress clearly put forward the goal of building a digital China. At the same time, it called for "doing a good job of online education," and "strives for every child to enjoy a fair and quality education."

"With the rapid development of the Internet, virtual reality and mobile communication technologies, the way and channel for human knowledge acquisition have been profoundly changed," said Zhong Binglin, president of the Chinese Education Association. Education in the new era is facing new changes, and advanced scientific and technological means help ease the contradiction between the people’s urgent demand for high quality education and the shortage of high quality educational resources.

In the Internet age, there is knowledge in the virtual world, books, teachers, and universities. Learning gradually shifted from "paper" to "fingertips" and became "ubiquitous" - everywhere and everywhere. Experts predict that in the future the Internet will find all the best courses, far more than any of the courses offered by a good university.

In the past 20 years, the Chinese Internet has changed from "desert" to "fertile ground." In 1997, there were only 620,000 Internet users in China. According to the "Statistical Report on China's Internet Development" published by China Internet Network Information Center, as of June this year, the number of Chinese Internet users reached 751 million, and the proportion of mobile Internet access continued to increase. In the past five years, the level of education informatization has increased dramatically. More than 90% of schools, including schools in remote and impoverished areas, have access to broadband, which was less than 25% five years ago.

According to market survey statistics, the number of online education users in China reached 144 million, and the number of mobile education users was 120 million. In 2018, the scale of China's online education market is expected to exceed 300 billion yuan.

“Online education and learning are in line with the needs of human lifelong learning and it is a historical necessity for social development,” said Yang Zhijian, president of the National Open University. 55% of students at the National Open University are located in the Midwest, many of whom are peasant and minority students.

As one of the Huimin measures of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission in the field of public services, the Beijing Digital School officially started in September last year. All students in the compulsory education stage in Beijing can use the digital platform to listen to the special grade teachers, academic leaders, and urban-level key teachers “at home”.

“This is an attempt to explore the seamless convergence of real schools and virtual schools, and it is also a new model for the sharing of basic services and public services with capital characteristics,” said the person in charge of the Beijing Municipal Education Commission.

Reporters learned that on the one hand, online courses are based on large-scale network dissemination, which is conducive to promoting education equilibrium; on the other hand, they also face the dilemma that some courses cannot be completed online tasks.

Traditional indoctrination classrooms cannot meet the individual development needs of students, and unsupervised online learning cannot ensure student self-consciousness and self-discipline. How to make "school dinner" at school and online learning "meal snacks" complement each other? How to make mobile phones from "bow tool" into "advanced weapon" to promote students to listen carefully?

According to a sample survey conducted by iResearch Group on online learning of Chinese college students in 2017, among the 18 to 30-year-old study target groups, more than half of the online learners are men; more than a bachelor degree account for a large proportion; language and vocational skills courses The demand is the greatest; self-enhancement is the biggest learning motivation in terms of learning drivers and learning attitudes. Master teacher explanation is an important factor to attract college students to learn online.

“We are improving the quality of online education through online and offline integrated instructional design. Pre-teachers send pre-tutoring materials to student WeChat; the slides on the class are synchronized to the student’s mobile phone, and they can click 'don't understand' to send questions back to them at any time. Teachers; after-school teachers push assignments and review materials to students, said Wang Shuaiguo, Director of Online Education Office of Tsinghua University.

Feng Feng, the founder of Aurora Ventures, believes that digital learning in the future is a combination of personalization, intelligence, and interaction, combined with online and offline. The role of teachers will change, educational content will become more inclusive and public, and traditional education models will be subverted by gradual innovation.

Many teachers admit that if they do not "charge" in time, they will panic. In the digital age, a wealth of online learning resources, massive information and new media technologies enable students to overtake teachers in certain areas. Teachers must not only continuously improve their ability to acquire, select, judge and apply new knowledge, but also strive to innovate curriculum settings and improve teaching interaction.
