They didn't make screens with new organic polymer materials, and they didn't redesign the screen structure, just changing the OLED manufacturing process.

It turns out that when the raw material is deposited on the substrate, it is only necessary to increase the temperature to improve the OLED screen. When the temperature reaches a certain condition, the material changes from a glassy state to a rubbery state. For many organic materials, this temperature is about 100 degrees Celsius. Researchers can create "ultra-stable glass" by heating the polymer to a temperature of 80-90% of the conversion temperature.

In general, polymers used in OLEDs are loose in combination and are not perfectly aligned, and may react with each other. If it is "ultra-stable glass", the molecular arrangement is more perfect and it is in the lowest energy consumption state, so it will be more stable.

If defects occur, the lifetime of the OLED screen will be shortened, and the probability of defects in the ultra-stable glass is much lower. Moreover, the vibration amplitude of this glass will be much smaller, so the OLED screen will generate fewer photons. These photons will fuse with the charge carriers, which will adversely affect the screen. Not only that, in the new screen, the excess energy will be heat. The form of non-light is scattered.

The researchers tested with four commonly used phosphorescent emitters and found that life was extended by 15% and energy savings by 15%. If you install it on your mobile phone, how much longer can you extend your battery life? There are many factors that determine the endurance. Different ways of using will also affect the battery life. Reineke said: "For each product, life is an important consideration, such as display, solid state lighting, if you can extend the life, the market will accept."

Next, researchers will test new technologies with more OLED materials. Then it depends on whether the heating technology can be used in the manufacturing process without adding too much cost. Reineke and German OLED manufacturer Cynora are testing new technologies.
