MediaTek + Microsoft enters the IoT microprocessor security product market to "grab" the opportunity

MediaTek announced on the 17th that it is working with Microsoft to introduce the first system-on-a-chip (SoC)-MT3620 that supports the Microsoft Azure Sphere solution, providing pre-built security for the microcontroller (MCU) type of IoT products. Networking function to jointly promote innovation and security of the Internet of Things.

MediaTek + Microsoft enters the IoT microprocessor security product market to "grab" the opportunity

MediaTek pointed out that Microsoft Azure Sphere is a solution designed to develop highly secure MCU-related devices, including secure operating systems and cloud services, enabling enterprise-wide security with a wide range of cloud devices.

MediaTek's MT3620 is a chip developed by MediaTek and Microsoft for the Microsoft Azure Sphere operating system. The Wi-Fi network control is built into the processor chip and loaded with Microsoft's latest security protocol. MediaTek's MT3620 chip will be sold with Microsoft's Azure Sphere solution in the future, enabling many IoT device developers to easily connect their MCU IoT devices and ensure security under the security architecture provided by Microsoft.

MediaTek further stated that the cost of networking has dropped significantly, meaning that billions of devices will be connected to each other and controlled through the MCU. From home appliances, health monitoring devices to children's toys and industrial equipment, they are all part of the continued growth of the Internet of Things. The more network nodes there are, the more likely they are to be hacked. This means that companies and individuals must believe that their devices, data, and the cloud are safe and secure, so that they can take advantage of these convenient networking devices. Therefore, MediaTek and Microsoft have joined forces to accelerate the market shift from stand-alone MCU devices to secure cloud-connected MCU devices and applications.

In addition, because there are currently more than 9 billion IoT devices with built-in MCUs entering the market each year. Therefore, vendors such as Microsoft and MediaTek must work together to ensure that the built-in security of expensive or low-cost connected devices is at the highest level. Moreover, in the future, through Azure Sphere, Microsoft is constructing a new ecosystem composed of multiple chip suppliers, ODMs and OEMs, enabling participating partners to understand the opportunities arising from the increasing number of IoT products and applications. Risk, and therefore work together to confirm the development and maintenance of safety standards. At present, MediaTek has sent samples to the first wave of cooperation customers, and the products will be listed in the third quarter of 2018.
