Looking back at Las Vegas early this year, a winter rain brought a bit of chill to the entire CES2018 venue. As in previous years, Sony has brought us new products including 4K HDR OLED TVs, a variety of Bluetooth headsets and mobile phones, demonstrating the technical capabilities of the Japanese electronics industry giant. Sony's A8F, A73, and Aibo robots bring us infinite black technology products every year.
Recently, Sony and the United States Carnegie Mellon University are preparing to join hands in the field of home robotics. In addition to its own participation in this project, it will also be promoted to practical use through financial support for entrepreneurial researchers. Sony will focus on new businesses that combine artificial intelligence and robotics as its focus areas, and will use external forces to accelerate business expansion.
Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported that Sony’s US subsidiary has signed an R&D agreement with Carnegie Mellon University, known for its artificial intelligence (AI) research. Making robots based on artificial intelligence has the ability to learn, enabling them to provide assistance in cooking and other domestic tasks. In terms of the shape of the robot, it is assumed to be a multi-functional robotic arm that can grasp the object. In terms of driving and controlling, Sony will use the technology accumulated by the development of the robot dog "aibo".
Both parties have made cooking and transportation the main development theme. We will develop technologies that can pick up soft objects such as tofu or place ingredients on the table. It will also study how the robot can design menus based on selected ingredients and cook them, and put the finished dishes on the table. Specific product outlines and launch dates have not been determined, but it is expected that many technologies will be put into practical use within five years. Some analysts believe that Sony will apply some key technologies such as robotic arm control and object handling to new personal products such as household support robots.
Members of the cable powder, if Sony introduced home-based robot stewards this year, will you start with one?
